About Me

“I think the ordinary is a very under-exploited aspect of our lives because it is so familiar. ”

— Martin Parr

My Work

My work is rooted in my interests in documentary photography.

When shooting portraits I am seeking a true sense of a subject framed in a real environment. In my landscapes and documentary work it is about capturing a true sense of the place and attempting to convey a narrative. Since moving to Southend-on-Sea I have pursued my interest in the British seaside documenting the coastline from the arcades and the architecture to the mudflats to the landscape.

Portraiture has always been a passion of mine, since having our two daughters I developed my own approach to children's and family portraiture and lifestyle work.

Biography

My name is Michael-John Jennings, I am a photographer based in Southend in Essex, working across London and the South-East.

I have worked in Photography for my entire career, currently working as a Archive Specialist at News UK where I curate and write about photography for The Times Newspaper. I practise my own photographic work alongside this.

I live in Southend-on-Sea with my wife and two daughters, when not at work can be found wandering along the Essex coastline or snapping an abandoned building somewhere.
